Slartibartfast

Cygnus Construction is pleased to announce the addition of Slartibartfast to their staff of builders.  An award-winning designer in his own right, Slartibartfast hails from the planet Magrathea.  Besides being a talented builder, he also seems to have a knack for finding things, having won the station-wide treasure hunt twice running.

Asked how he felt about his wins, Slartibartfast commented, "Winning the Treasure Hunt means nearly as much to me as when I won an Design Award for my work on the Norwegian fjords on a planet known as Earth."

His only criticism is that the Treasure Hunt started an hour late. As a member of CamTim (Campaign for Real Time), he blames the inconsistent time-zones in use across the galaxy. To his way of thinking, this only highlights the need for a standardized galaxy time.  He says CamTim are actively trying to promote GMT, Galaxy Mean Time.

We here at the Signal can only add that having such a multi-talented and strongly opininated being aboard Sigma Station will surely make for interesting times ahead.

A Busy Week on Sigma Station!

A New Craze on Sigma Station

A new craze has taken Sigma Station by storm. To the average person, climbing through a dusty vent is not something you do everyday. But a new group of people calling themselves "Vent Ninjas" are causing a stir in the public transportation sector. The craze of climbing through a vent seems to be catching on, for one reason because it offers quick and easy travel to other areas.

These so-called "Vent Ninjas" appear to be highly knowledgeable in the layout of the Sigma Station airflow system and use the system for daily travel around the station. It seems that this craze is gaining momentum, as a new book on this subject is in the works. Although it is at present untitled, it should be available at Euphrates Book in Biodome A on Isis soon.

This reporter reminds you not to venture into the vents without the required tools, as you could get stuck. Authorities say that climbing through air vents is not illegal but urge the public to close vents after they have used them and always take caution.

Security Alert

Rumours of criminal activities of a fraudulent nature are being strenuously denied by the Station's command staff. However it has been learned that at least one resident of the station has been incarcerated by authorities for illegal financially-related activities.

Authorities stress that there is no reason to be alarmed but remind residents that financial activities aboard Sigma Station are closely monitored by the Core security systems. Station Patrol Bot 4X1Z remains on high alert for other such behaviour.

Price Drop Announced

The Constellation Network has announced a new pricing scheme wherein travellers may opt to purchase a return ticket bundle at a reduced price when travelling to Isis from Sigma Station and back. One way tickets between the station and Isis are still available for purchase at the normal price of 500c each way, but the round trip ticket is available for 800c.

Network representatives stated that they hoped the reduced prices will encourage more travel to Isis and stimulate the economy.

Breaking News!

Welcome New Residents

The staff and crew of Sigma Station would like to welcome the many new residents who have recently come aboard after a recent wave of migration activity.  Please make yourselves at home and feel free to contact any member of the crew if you require assistance.

Station Commander duncanj, Architects Scribe and barnoid, Journalist tregina and Builder jeremy are available to help you. Jeremy would like to let everyone know that he ecstatic to see all of the new residents and that he welcomes any inquiries. Residents should not hesitate to ask him for help.

Core Upgrades

The operating systems in the Core have recently been upgraded to the new Mishberry Dessert version.  Systems seem to be operating normally, although intermittent communications problems have been reported.

In related news, Core Security officers had to detain several non-humanoid residents who had attempted to break into the Core.  When asked why they had attempted the break in, one of the suspects was overheard to say, "Mishberry? Sounds yummy!"

Everything Old Is New Again

Greetings, fellow residents of Sigma Station. After a short delay, we are back online with some happy news.

This past February marked the sixth anniversary of the Station being online for your exploration. Architect scribe of the Isis architectural firm of Scribe & Sons reports that are exciting plans in the works for the near future.

The Signal itself is coming to you from new (well, new to us, anyway) hardware after an ugly incident involving a power cord felled our previous CPU in its prime of life. Le compy c'est mort. Vive le compy!

We are looking forward to again reporting all of the news we can make up.

In the meantime, congrats to all of our recent treasure hunt winners, including the aforementioned scribe, jeremy and, of course, our own tregina. We also are glad to see wedgefreak and obiwan wandering the halls of the station again. Welcome back, guys.

Virtual Worlds

Once upon a time, I heard a saying that explained the whole Internet to me. "It's not real, it's virtually real."

And now, so is our server. The AU MUD is now running from a virtual server living somewhere in the south of England and not from Betelguese after all.

Party Aftermath

The cleaning bots have still not finished cleaning up after the obviously successful party hosted by jeremy two weeks ago at Geiger Rising. Amidst the snacks and party favours, the small group who attended made up for their lack of numbers by their sheer enthusiam. After the main party, which lasted most of the day on Saturday, August 25, broke up, a few stragglers went on an extended tour of the Station and outlying areas, visiting and viewing an impressive array of building projects in progress.

After the party, jeremy issued this interesting statement:

"I told everyone I was from some planet called Earth, but it wasn't the truth. I was actually a builder on a planet called Xrin. (Xrin is known as "planet of the shape-shifters," which explains my constant shape shifting.) While I was travelling in space [searching] for new building ideas, my ship begain to lose fuel and I was forced to land on Xylan; my ship had a rough landing and crashed. I am now living on Isis, frequently visiting Sigma. I plan to building new and fascinating areas."

If his building projects are as intersting as his stories, we all have a lot to look forward to.
